WSOP 2008 Final Table to be played on 9th November
May 1st, 2008 | by Admin |Rumours that this change has been on the cards have been circulating since WSOP 07, but only today at a Media Conference at 4pm UK (11am New York) will the rumour be confirmed (or not) as truth. Basically, instead of the final table being played there and then in Vegas in July the action will be put on hold until Nov 9th when the final nine will sit around the final table - the remaining two will go heads up on 10th November for the title. ESPN will broadcast the action on 11th November with the winner receiving the title and being crowned live on TV that night.
Reaction to the change in WSOP schedule is mixed, it is reported that poker stalwart Doyle ‘Dolly’ Brunson is opposed to the change, reasoning that a 117 day delay would be overkill. Daniel Negreanus is said to agree with the change reckoning that it will create a buzz.
The delay could prove a bit of a worry for the final nine, last year the player in 9th position, Philip Hilm, took home $525,934 whilst the winner, Jerry Yang, cashed out a massive $8.25m! That’s quite a difference in size of prize purse, and if you believe in winning streaks how do you get Lady Luck to hang around for 117 days? The results of the Media Conference will be reported below:
Now confirmed – WSOP 08 Main Event Final Table of 9 will take place on 9th November. The players who make the final table will be paid 9th place money in July, their airfare and hotel (for two) will be paid for them to return to Vegas in November to play.
